This important series of events will consider;-

  • learning outcomes from current research projects
  • academic research across the UK and identifying opportunities for developing future research
  • evaluation of best practice implementation for those working in and across the sector.

The Academic Health Science Network for the North East and North Cumbria, North of England Commissioning Support Unit and Newcastle University are sponsoring a series of events focused on sharing and developing good practice, research and evidence within the care home sector.

The first event delivered in partnership with Yorkshire and Humber Academic Health Science Network will consider the learning across 5 projects who have all delivered digital solutions into care homes across the two regions. These projects are in Sheffield, Sunderland, Hartlepool and Stockton, Darlington and Durham, and in Gateshead Newcastle.

The event will focus on finding the common ‘lessons learned’ and critical success factors and will be of interest to those working in the sector, senior teams of care home groups, commissioners and NHS and Social Care staff working across the wider system, together with academics working in the field, policy makers and knowledge exchange organisations.

In addition, the event will invite consideration by attendees of “what next”, in the light of what has already been achieved in the five projects, and new digital solutions to closer working and improved communication between care homes and the surrounding NHS (primary and secondary care, emergency and urgent services).

The second event in April, led by Newcastle University, will showcase the rapidly expanding care home related research in the Institute of Health and Society / Institute of Ageing, Newcastle University. Bringing together researchers, healthcare professionals, commissioners, and care home managers and staff in a collaborative context, this event will promote shared learning, priority setting, and the development of an informed research agenda. The final event in May, led by North of England Commissioning Support, will bring together the questions that arise from the previous events and from all staff in all sectors to shape future collaborative research and evaluation.
