What are these events about?

These events have been organised to allow a wide range of participants from the NHS, Local Authorities and the Voluntary Sector working at grass roots level to review the high level Health & Care Strategy for the Cumbria and the North East Integrated Care System. Their challenge on the day will be to make recommendations as to what are the right things to do for our residents –  and how these recommendations might be taken forward.

There are 4 events taking place on different patches in the region to involve as many people and as many views as possible. A critical element will be to showcase examples of new and innovative practice, bringing everyone up to speed as to what is happening in their area – and also to inspire and demonstrate the art of the possible.

Our health and care system aspires to develop an Integrated Care System across North East and North Cumbria. We want to develop systems that provide the best health and care for our populations in the right place at the right time with the best trained and supported workforce. This means that we need to plan how we will work in different ways, respond to advances in care and patient expectations whilst maximising our use of technology, delivery of care closer to home and much more. We need to consider as a system what the priorities should be and adapt both what we want do and how we do it.

  • Intention to form a North East and North Cumbria ICS
  • Covering 3.3 million people
  • Currently in the ‘aspirant’ ICS Programme
  • Potential to formally being in April 2019
  • Will be comprised of 4 Integrated Care Partnerships, similar model to Lancashire and South Cumbria

Why Integrated Care Systems?

  • The NHS needs to do things differently to bring about better health and wellbeing, better standards of care, and better use of staff and funds.
  • Changing demand – More people are living longer – More than one long term condition – Mental health and physical health
  • The NHS can’t improve outcomes in health and wellbeing on its own.

We need to get the strategy for development of the ICS right. So, to ensure we have an understanding that reflects the work that you do and your aspirations for quality care now and in the future, we are inviting a broad range of people to a series of regional events to join our journey and participate in a Big Health and Care Conversation. We want to hear from health and care practitioners, volunteers and patients to get insights into what has worked well in your local system and what practitioners feel should be prioritised in terms of a future strategy for our region. We want to understand your priorities, challenges and your proposed solutions to provide the best care to the people of Cumbria and the North East.
