This is a day that will be of specific interest to Crisis Care Concordat teams, CCG commissioners, police forces, police & crime commissioners, ambulance staff and health and social care service providers.

The day will begin with a presentation from High Intensity Network National Programme Manager, Paul Jennings. Paul will outline the principles of the SIM model and why it was designed in 2013 to work alongside all forms of NHS/Police triage teams, by supporting service users who need more clinically driven, behaviour focussed risk management than triage alone can provide. Paul will be co-presenting with the PAVE team from Leicestershire who have operated an identical model to SIM since 2016. Paul will then outline how all 11 MH Trusts operating this type of team do so with slightly different staffing models, as well as training together, sharing data and supporting each other with the most complex of cases.

Two digital products being developed within the network will also be explained:

  1. A national crisis care system, enabling crisis response plans for our highest risk patients to be immediately accessed by any police and ambulance provider.
  2. A national s136 digital platform which will record all s136 detentions locally, regionally and centrally. This will provide high quality data to health and police leaders, enabling better informed crisis care improvements, risk management and cost reductions.

These two proposals are ‘supported in principle’ by NHS England and the National Police Chiefs Council.

The rest of the day will then be used to develop local discussion and meaningful project proposals, that will then be considered for funding support from the AHSN.
