Mark is currently Portfolio Manager for the NENC ICS ‘Trusted Research and Evaluation Environment’ (TREE.) Previously he was Programme Manager for the Great North Care Record (GNCR), helping develop the initial concept and blueprint for delivery. Mark was Director of Operations for the Connected Health Cities programme (NENC) from 2016, having led on the original proposal for the AHSN, before joining in 2018 to continue the GNCR development. Mark worked in commercial IT before joining The Sowerby Centre health informatics research unit within Newcastle University in 1996. In 2004 he joined the NHS and had various programme related roles including with County Durham and Tees Valley Strategic Health Authority and County Durham and Darlington PCT, mainly involving use of information systems for collaborative working between healthcare providers. Mark continued similar work with his own business from 2011 through to his AHSN appointment. Mark has a degree in Information Technology, a postgraduate diploma in Management Studies,  professional qualifications in both programme and project management and various digital certifications.
