Great North Care Record

Joe is the founding Director for the Great North Care Record (GNCR) programme and leads it on behalf of the AHSN.

Joe graduated in 1985, following a period as a Junior Doctor and quickly moved to specialising in psychiatry; he has been a Consultant Psychiatrist for the last 30 years. Currently Joe is Chief Clinical Information Officer at NTW NHS Trust, England’s largest Mental Health Trust.

For 30 years Joe has been campaigning and trying to measure better quality mental health services. He is a clinical engagement specialist with a track record of engaging clinicians in difficult circumstances and projects. Joe is:

  • Former Chairman of the CCIO Leaders Network
  • Founding member of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and management
  • Founding chairman of the National Mental Health Informatics Network
  • An experienced Caldicott Guardian
  • An accredited Clinical Safety Officer.

Joe has worked as an inspector for the Commission for Health Improvement since its foundation in 1999 and successor organisations, CHAI, Healthcare Commission and CQC. He is Former Trust Medical Director and National Clinical Lead for IT. He is a Former SRO for the deployment of the English prison service Electronic Patient Record System.
