Maternity and Neonatal

National Maternity and Neontal Health Safety Collaborative

This is a national three-year Programme, which started in April 2017. It is aimed at supporting improvement in the quality and safety of maternity and neonatal units across England.

The overall aim is to improve outcomes and reduce unwarranted variation by providing a safe, high quality healthcare experience for all women, babies and families across maternity and neonatal care settings.

In the region, all of our eight Trusts who have a maternity and neonatal units are now fully engaged in this Collaborative:

  • North Tees & Hartlepool NHS FT
  • County Durham and Darlington NHS FT
  • South Tees NHS FT
  • Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust
  • Gateshead Health NHS FT
  • South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS FT
  • Newcastle Hospitals NHS FT
  • North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust

Each Trust works on projects to address their own challenges in order to improve the services they provide.

In addition, as a region we work on a system wide project, which is currently PReCePT (Prevention of Cerebral Palsy in the Preterm Infant).

Every three months the Trusts come together through the NENC MatNeo Health Safety Collaborative Learning System, to support sharing and learning across the region, the last event was held on 4 June 2019, find out more about the event and view the presentations.
