Maternity and Neonatal

This is a national three-year Programme, which started in April 2017, aimed at supporting improvement in the quality and safety of maternity and neonatal units across England.

The overall aim is to improve outcomes and reduce unwarranted variation by providing a safe, high quality healthcare experience for all women, babies and families across maternity and neonatal care settings.

In the region North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust was involved in year 1. Although their projects are not yet complete, promising results are starting to emerge.

In year 2, a further four Trusts from the region are involved, and in year 2 the remaining four trusts will join.

Maternity and Neonatal Safety – What Now?

As we continue the journey to transform the maternity services across the North East and North Cumbria, we need to further enhance the way we share the considerable knowledge and expertise of all staff groups involved in providing or supporting maternal and/or neonatal services. One way to achieve this is through the sharing of information and learning from our quality improvement projects.
