AHSN NENC welcomes The Marmot Review 10 Years On

Dr Nicola Wesley, Interim Chief Executive Officer at the Academic Health Science Network for the North East and North Cumbria, has welcomed the findings of the ‘Health Equity in England: The Marmot Review 10 Years On’, which was published this week.

Dr Wesley said: “The Marmot Review has laid bare the growing health inequalities across the UK – with the North of England feeling this more than other areas of the country.

“The fact that the most deprived areas of the North East have seen the largest decreases in life expectancy over the last decade makes for uncomfortable reading, but it’s important that the findings of this report are listened to and acted upon.

“We can’t afford to lose any more time; we need to see action now to tackle these growing divides if we are to improve the health of people across the region and nationally.”
