TSA in association with the Academic Health Science Network for the North East and North Cumbria (AHSN NENC) would like to invite you to attend a fresh style of event, aimed at showcasing innovative solutions and approaches within the Technology Enabled Care sector for support with Long Term Conditions, in particular for people with Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes.

Background

There are now around 3.8 million people in England and 190,0001 in the North East currently diagnosed with either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. By 2025 it is estimated there will be more than 5 million people will have diabetes in the UK. It is estimated that there are nearly 1 million people with undiagnosed Type 2 diabetes and another 12 million people are at risk of developing diabetes.

Diabetes UK estimates that the NHS is already spending around £10 billion a year on diabetes and managing the growing impact of diabetes is a major clinical challenge.

Technological solutions have a significant role to play in supporting people to meet their outcomes, at a time of reducing resources.

The purpose of this event is to enable participants from across the health, housing and social care to:

  • Review a broad range of technological solutions that exist in the market that promote prevention and early intervention and independent living, support the self-care, and self-directed care agendas, and enable people to stay connected with their communities,
  • Gain some insight into how such technological solutions have been used in practice in different settings and the benefits that have been realised for different people,
  • Talk to others about how such technological solutions have become a core part of the Health and Social Care offer, both in the short and long term, how this was achieved in practice and how this might be
  • achieved at scale.

A full programme we be issued in due course but confirmed speakers include:

  • Alyson Scurfield, Chief Executive, TSA
  • Russ Watkins, Commercial Director, AHSN NENC
  • Fiona Brown, Executive Director of Neighbourhoods, Sunderland City Council
