Spread and Adoption

The team will support Innovation Forum members to raise the profile of proven innovations, and the originating organisations, to promote wider and faster uptake, adoption and spread to improve health and social care outcomes across the region and beyond.

The annual Bright Ideas in Health Awards, delivered by the AHSN NENC, is an ideal opportunity for Trusts to enter their innovations for recognition. The Awards will raise the profile of the innovation and the innovators as well as providing the opportunity for financial support, greater visibility and potential engagement opportunities.

If you have an innovative product or service idea, do get in touch with us! You can drop us an email ([email protected]) or, if you are in an NHS Trust, reach out to your R&D or Innovation team.

Trust/Organisation: South Tees

Overview: Nebigrip is a handheld device that supports the Pari eFlow Rapid (nebuliser) in order to help children with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) take their daily medication with ease.

The initial idea for the NebiGrip device came from an experienced paediatric physiotherapist in the CF team at James Cook University Hospital, part of South Tees NHS Foundation Trust. This idea was brought to the attention of the Trust’s Innovation Manager, Sharon Brown, who in turn raised the device with the AHSN NENC. Through Sharon’s involvement with the AHSN NENC and the Innovation Forum, the team at South Tees were able to engage with a number of support offerings to develop the device.

The AHSN NENC team offered advice regarding the next steps and provided support regarding the Intellectual Property of the NebiGrip as well as signposting and communications support. Engaging with the support package available via the AHSN NENC created a strong foundation for the NebiGrip team and the device is now available for purchase following work with Niche Medical Ltd.

Niche Medical Ltd were able to turn the innovation into production, especially developing the device to enable easier self-administration for young children. The NebiGrip has been shortlisted for a Nursing Times Award and was Highly Commended in the Innovative Device Category at the Bright Idea in Health Awards in 2014.
